Most Superbuy buyers think about 1688 as a cheaper version of Taobao. That comparison misses the operational difference. 1688 is built around wholesale supply, minimum quantities, factory cartons and seller-specific after-sales rules. A low unit price can be excellent, but only if you understand what Superbuy will inspect, what evidence you will receive at the warehouse, and how a bulk order changes international freight.
This guide is for buyers who want to use Superbuy for 1688 orders without treating every listing like a one-piece retail purchase. The useful question is not “Is this item cheap?” It is “What will one usable unit cost after domestic shipping, inspection risk, packaging and international delivery?”
Start with the minimum order, not the headline price
1688 listings often show an attractive per-unit number before you check the minimum order quantity. Superbuy’s 1688 guidance tells buyers to pay attention to the supplier’s minimum purchase quantity and wholesale rules. If the submitted quantity does not satisfy the seller’s minimum, the order may be treated as invalid and need to be placed again.
Before paying, record four numbers: unit price at your required quantity, minimum order quantity, China domestic shipping, and the number of usable units you realistically expect to keep.
Superbuy’s current fee structure lists standard purchasing from mainstream platforms, including 1688, with no basic purchasing service fee. That does not make the whole transaction free. Product cost, China domestic delivery, international shipping and optional value-added services remain separate.
Understand the 1688 service tier before you rely on QC
This is the most important distinction.
Superbuy’s current 1688 page separates listings with certain protection or exchange markings from listings without them. For the supported category shown with the relevant protection or “7-day” marks, Superbuy states that it provides purchasing service, 90 days of free storage, limited sampling inspection, three standard photos and limited after-sales assistance.
For unmarked 1688 listings, the same page is stricter. It says purchasing and warehousing are still provided, but sampling inspection, standard photos and after-sales service are not provided.
That means “Superbuy gives three QC photos” is not a safe blanket assumption for every 1688 order. Check the service status of the listing before deciding how much risk you are taking.
Know what the wholesale sampling rule proves
For supported 1688 listings, Superbuy’s public rules say the warehouse samples 5% of each product style, with a minimum of five pieces and a maximum of twenty. If 90% of the sampled pieces are judged unqualified, the entire batch is treated as defective and the user is notified.
This is still sampling, not piece-by-piece retail inspection.
If you order 100 identical accessories, a 5% sample is five pieces. Those pieces can reveal obvious color, shape or visible defect problems, but they cannot prove that all remaining units are perfect. The limitation is even more important with electronics, custom products, fragile goods or defects that are internal rather than visible.
Superbuy’s 1688 disclaimer also states that factory-original cartons are not necessarily opened for exact quantity counting. The warehouse may count cartons according to packing specifications rather than verify every unit inside. If there is no packing quantity marked on the carton, precise unit counting may not be provided.
Use paid inspection only when it changes a decision
Superbuy’s current value-added service page lists options that can be useful for higher-risk purchases. Detailed Photo is listed at CN¥2 per requested image. Re-inspection is CN¥6 and covers another check of style, quantity, color, size, model, damage and obvious defects with three inspection photos. Detailed Inspection is CN¥5.50 per item. Power-on Inspection for supported electronics is CN¥12 per item.
The best use of these services is not to buy all of them. Buy the smallest amount of evidence that answers a decision.
If jackets are supposed to use a specific zipper and label, request those details before international shipping. If a small appliance only has value when it powers on, a power-on check may be more useful than several general photographs. Extra inspection can improve information, but it does not create a return right that the seller did not offer.
Treat seller after-sales rules as part of the purchase price
For the supported 1688 category, Superbuy says that when inspection finds unqualified goods, the purchasing team can assist with communication, but the actual result follows the seller’s rules and the buyer bears return or exchange shipping costs.
For listings without the relevant protection markings, Superbuy’s page states that after-sales support is not provided.
Before paying, look for seller protection or exchange indicators and decide whether the margin between a cheaper listing and a safer listing is large enough to justify the weaker return position. For customized goods, Superbuy also warns that professional quality inspection may not be possible, so specifications should be settled with the seller before purchase.
Build a landed-cost sheet before you consolidate
For a 1688 order, unit economics should be calculated in two stages.
Stage one is warehouse cost: product price, China domestic shipping and any inspection or handling service you deliberately buy. Stage two is international delivery: parcel chargeable weight, route fees, packaging choices and destination-related charges.
Superbuy’s fee page says the international shipping fee is generated from the parcel’s final weight, selected route and destination, with an upfront estimate followed by reconciliation against the logistics provider’s final bill.
Superbuy’s shipping calculator also asks for destination, weight, parcel dimensions and item category. For most air cargo, the public calculator explains volumetric weight as length × width × height ÷ 6,000. Large but light wholesale goods can therefore cost far more to ship than their scale weight suggests.
A practical formula is:
The “expected loss allowance” is not a Superbuy fee. It is your own risk budget for possible defects, quantity variance or units that cannot ship on your preferred route.
Separate sensitive goods before they reduce route choice
Bulk orders make restrictions more expensive because one incompatible item can reduce the route choices for everything else.
Superbuy’s current shipping calculator separates product attributes such as built-in batteries, power banks, liquids, powders, food, medicine and appliances. The page also warns that prohibited items should be returned to the seller if they reach the warehouse.
Before consolidating, group 1688 goods into ordinary, sensitive and fragile categories. Then compare shipping options for each group. A box of normal clothing should not automatically be tied to a battery product if the battery removes a cheaper line for the entire parcel.
Superbuy also lists a Split Order/Discard Item service at CN¥2 per order unit for cases where gifts, batteries, liquids or other items need to be separated or removed for shipping.
Bulk packaging is a freight decision, not just protection
Factory packaging can be efficient for domestic movement but inefficient for international air freight. Stripping wholesale goods too aggressively, however, can create damage, lost parts or crushed retail boxes.
Keep packaging that protects structure, separates small parts or preserves product value. Remove empty presentation space that adds volume without useful protection. Add reinforcement only where the risk is specific, such as impact, moisture or weak carton corners.
For soft goods, reducing volume can matter because volumetric weight can exceed actual weight. For dense hardware or electronics, removing a little packaging may have much less effect.
Do not make irreversible packaging changes before the inspection decision is complete. Once labels, boxes or original packaging are altered, a return can become harder depending on the seller and service conditions.
Use the new-user coupon as a freight tool, not cash
Superbuy’s current public promotion pages still advertise a CN¥560 shipping coupon bundle for new users. Treat it as a bundle of shipping coupons subject to its own conditions, not CN¥560 of unrestricted cash.
For a wholesale order, coupon timing matters because the parcel may be split. Check the live coupon rules, eligible routes, thresholds and validity dates before consolidating around a discount. Do not let a coupon push you into a worse route.
A practical 1688 workflow
Before ordering, confirm minimum quantity, seller markings, domestic shipping and whether the product is shipping-sensitive. Save the specification you actually need, especially color, size, material, model and custom details.
When the goods reach Superbuy, check which 1688 service level applies. Review the available inspection result and photographs. If the evidence cannot answer a high-value question, use a targeted value-added inspection rather than a vague request for “more QC.”
Before international shipping, separate restricted goods, estimate dimensions as well as weight, and compare one consolidated parcel with multiple route-compatible parcels. Keep enough packaging to protect the product and preserve value, but remove dead volume when the trade-off is reasonable.
Finally, calculate cost per usable unit after freight, not before it. That habit turns 1688 from a cheap-looking marketplace into a controllable sourcing channel.
Frequently asked questions
Does Superbuy charge a basic purchasing fee for 1688?
Superbuy’s current fee page lists no basic purchasing service fee for mainstream platforms including 1688. China domestic shipping, international freight and optional services are separate costs.
Will every 1688 order get three free QC photos?
No. Superbuy’s current 1688 service page distinguishes supported listings with certain protection or exchange markings from unmarked listings. The supported category lists three standard photos; the unmarked category says no standard photos are provided.
Does Superbuy count every unit in a factory carton?
Not necessarily. The 1688 service rules state that factory-original cartons may be counted according to the marked packing specification rather than opened for exact unit-by-unit counting.
What is the best way to reduce 1688 international shipping cost?
Separate restricted products, compare actual and volumetric weight, remove unnecessary dead-volume packaging where safe, and choose routes based on final parcel data. The lowest unit purchase price is not enough; compare landed cost per usable unit.
